Floating Gallery Rail Spice Shelves

By far, my favorite part of our NYC kitchen renovation, was this DIY spice shelf. We kept it simple, used a 1×3 piece of wood cut to size, painted the same color as my cabinets, routed a decorative edge on it then added gallery rail.

Exact gallery rail we used:

  • Pros: Can get the rails in various lengths
  • Cons: the little screws were very difficult to install

Alternate gallery rail:

  • Pros: single screw easy install
  • Cons: rail pieces only come in large sizes so if you want corners, you have to cut them, screw installs from bottom so may be visible

Install

I have a paneled fridge, so we were able to install the shelves simply by screwing them into the inside of the wood panel. If you don’t have this option, I’d suggest mounting the shelves into the wall using a pre-made floating shelf. Like this or this.
